Donate to Guerito's Medical and Memorial Fund
We hospitalized him at VEG in Oak Brook for aggressive, around-the-clock care—he received IV fluids, a feeding tube, and every supportive measure we could offer to give him a fighting chance. His caretaker said he was alert and meowing when she left—he wanted to live. Tragically, despite our efforts and his brave spirit, Guerito didn’t make it.
Now we’re asking for your help to cover the cost of the care we gave him in his final hours. We’re still far from even halfway to our goal. We know how difficult it is to fundraise for a cat who has passed—but behind every name like Guerito is a life full of meaning, and a fight worth remembering.

Donate to Guerito's Medical and Memorial FundSweet Guerito was a 1-year-old, incredibly friendly outdoor cat who captured hearts wherever he went. His devoted caretaker, who we had supported with TNR in the past, reached out to us when he suddenly stopped eating. We began treatment for what we thought was a simple URI, which did improve—but his appetite never returned.
After further evaluation, we realized Guerito was likely suffering from FIP, a disease that was once fatal but now has a chance at remission with the right treatment. We started him on the life-saving FIP medication immediately, but because he had gone so long without eating, he had already begun developing fatty liver disease. We hospitalized him at VEG in Oak Brook for aggressive, around-the-clock care—he received IV fluids, a feeding tube, and every supportive measure we could offer to give him a fighting chance. Felines of Chicago is a small, all-volunteer nonprofit that operates solely on donations. The funds raised now will help us cover Guerito’s medical and memorial costs and allow us to say yes the next time we’re called on for help. Every dollar makes a difference. Please consider donating or sharing. Guerito mattered—and your support helps us honor that. |

OUR SERVICES
keeping families togetherWe understand that life happens + we want to be there for families when it does. We would like to see families stay together but understand when that is not possible. We want to prevent cats from entering kill shelters so we provide educational materials and pet consultations for those in need & re-homing assistance.
|
reducing populationNot every cat belongs or wants to be in a home. The truth is feral felines are just trying to co-exist with us. We are working with the community to sterilize stray, community and feral cats through TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) to prevent unnecessary euthanasia and waste animal control resources.

supporting eachotherOne of the biggest things we offer is rescue & foster assistance. Fostering can be hard on the heart & many cannot afford to feed & maintain another pet. We are here to provide education and emotional support for those really hard days.
