FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat do i do if i found a stray cat?
While Felines of Chicago is not a rescue, we can help assist you with a found stray by providing microchip scanning and rescue placement. Should you not be local to one of our volunteers with a scanner, you can get an animal scanned at any local police station or vet clinic. If the pet is not microchipped we can proceed with assessing the cat for foster & rescue placement.
I FOUND KITTENS BUT THERE IS NO MOM?
First, look around. Do you see a mom? If you don't and they are not in immediate danger, take a step back and wait to see if mom returns. Should mom not return contact your local animal control and rescue groups. Should you need immediate assistance, send us an e-mail and we can coordinate placement and provide assistance.
How do I become a foster?
We are so glad you're interested in becoming a foster. You can visit our foster page for more information on becoming a foster. If you don't find an answer to your question there, drop us an e-mail and we would be more than happy to answer any of your questions.
Help! i have a sick or injured cat!
If you have found a sick or injured cat, please contact 311 or bring to your nearest animal control. You can contact us for additional assistance and information.
If your personal feline family member is sick and needs medical attention, please locate the nearest emergency vet clinic. You will find links to financial assistance & support in our resources section. I lost my cat. What do I do?
It is good to keep in mind that cats do not typically wander more than a few blocks from home. After you have searched the general area, we suggest putting their litter box outside along with anything that smells like you. Next, create a flyer. After you have done that, it is crucial that you post on various lost pet websites and social media groups. You will find a list with these under our assistance tab. From here, we recommend placing fliers around your neighborhood and notifying your neighbors. You should also send a flyer to your local animal control and check their website for regular updates on intakes. We hope you find your pet.
are you a rescue? do you have any cats for adoption?
Felines of Chicago is not a rescue, however, we are a rescue support organization. This means we help support rescues and those involved, including you as an adopter. While someday we'd love to be a rescue, at this time we are not. You can find cats & kittens available for adoption through our rescue partners. Please visit our rescue partners page for our partners.
I can't foster but is there anything else I can do?
We understand not everyone can foster a cat but still want to make a difference in the rescue community. You can contribute monetarily or you can volunteer for one of our various volunteer positions, whether it be transporting cats from shelters or vet appointments to their fosters or spreading the word about fostering through social media. Check out our volunteers page for all available opportunities.
